There are three penalties for misconduct
1. 

Fine

2.Suspension
3.Revocation of Commission

 

It is a misdemeanor for a non-notary:

 

lTo knowingly solicit or coerce an improper notarial act
l

To advertise, represent himself or herself, or act as a notary public.
