ADVERTISING

 

 
1.A notary who advertises himself or herself as having an expertise in immigration matters may not advertise that he/she is a notary public.
2.

The literal translation of the phrase, “Notary Public” into Spanish hereby defined as “Notario Publico” or Notario” is prohibited.

 

3.Any non-attorney who advertises notarial services in a language other than English, must post a prescribed notice in English and the other language that:

 

a)The notary is not an attorney
b)Cannot give legal advice about immigration or any other legal matters
c)Post a list of statutory notary fees

 

In addition to any commissioning or disciplinary sanction, a violation of the above is punishable by a civil penalty not to exceed $1,500.00

2.The Secretary of State shall suspend for a period of not less than one year or revoke the commission of any notary public who fails to comply with the above.

3.Upon the second offense the commission of such notary public shall be revoked permanently.
