Certified Copies
 
A certified copy is a duplicate of the original document that is maintained by a custodian that issued the original document. 
 
 
California law prohibits notaries from certifying copies of documents other than copies of the notaries official records which is the notaries sequential journal and any document titled, Power of Attorney.
 
 
 

Certifying Copies of Line Item Entries From  the Sequential Journal

 

On written request by any member of the public, the notary may certify a copy of a line item entry from their sequential journal

The request shall include:

1.1.  The name of the parties

2.2.  The type or title of document notarized

3.3.  The month and year of notarization.

 

The notary will copy the line item entry from the sequential journal and attach a certified copy loose leaf certificate to the copy

 
The notary shall charge no more than $.30 per page
